RESPONSIBLE drinking standards has earned the University of Chichester’s student union bar the title of best in the country.

Judges of this year’s Best Bar None awards scheme run by the National Union of Students gave the Zee Bar, at the university’s Bishop Otter Campus, full marks for its work promoting safe alcohol retailing and student safety.

They said: ‘Zee bar is a good example of how a bar should be run. They treat their customers with respect, and do not encounter any problems as a result.’

John Williams, the licensed trade manager at the university’s student union, said: ‘It is great to have been recognised as the best students’ union bar in the country when it comes to looking after our students.

‘We want our students to have fun, but we take our responsibilities very seriously, and this award proves it.’

The Zee Bar was automatically shortlisted for the Best Bar None national award, competing against all winning bars across a range of categories, and came runner-up to a bar in Birmingham.
