TALENTED and enthusiastic young musicians are invited to attend a free taster day for a music academy that offers workshops with professional staff.

Boys and girls from the ages of eight to 18 are being encouraged to try out the University of Chichester Music Academy (UCMA) which has now expanded to centres at Christ’s Hospital School, Horsham and Lancing College, Worthing.

The UCMA is open to instrumentalists, singers and composers of any background or style.

A team of highly qualified staff, with the support of university students, will deliver workshops in performance, music history, composition, theory and experimental activities like African drumming.

Dr Adam Swayne, UCMA regional co-ordinator, said: ‘We can support children from across the county at a time when the provision for local music is under threat.’

UCMA taster days are running at the new sites on Oct 15 and 22, Saturdays in Nov and on Dec 3. Details at blogs.chi.ac.uk/ucma
