CHILDREN have been encouraged to discover a love of reading with free books.

Youngsters from across Gosport were given a free copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book 1 as part of a week-long campaign to get children reading.

At the Discovery Centre, in Gosport town centre, children were given the book written by children’s author Jeff Kinney.

But first, they had to complete a treasure hunt which took them around the centre.

The giveaway is part of ITV’s Good Morning Britain campaign which highlights the role that libraries and reading play in improving the prospects of children, especially those living in areas of social deprivation.
