TWO Hampshire mums who have launched a campaign to save children’s centres across the county will be collecting signatures today.

Catherine Ovenden and Kate Reynolds are pleading for as many people as possible to help them accumulate 32,000 signatures opposing cuts to the number of children’s centres that affect Gosport, Fareham, Havant and Waterlooville.

The pair, from Southampton will be standing outside Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury’s in Hedge End retail park from 5pm until 8pm.

Catherine said: ‘We have enough room for 30,000 signatures on the petition we’re bringing with us – so the more the merrier!’

Hampshire County Council is considering closing 28 SureStart centres, which offer support for parents, to save more than £6m a year.
