A COLLEGE’S local food project has been shortlisted in the Hampshire Countryside Awards
Highbury College in is the running in the ‘rural enterprise’ category.
The Local Food Project works to provide Highbury’s hospitality and catering students with skills to promote sustainability in the workplace and at home. The students benefit from trips to local farms, visits from local food suppliers and demonstrations of artisan skills such as foraging and baking.
Project co-ordinator Megan Saunders said: ‘Taking chefs out of the kitchen and into the field allows both food producer and chef to have respect of the complete farm to fork journey, helping the industry to become more sustainable.’
The winner will receive the award from Chandlers Ford and Winchester MP Steve Brine during a ceremony at Itchen Abbas this month.
