HAMPSHIRE County Council’s catering service has been named the 2011 UK Education Caterer of the Year.

The team scooped the prize, issued by the Cost Sector Catering Awards, for its use of local produce in school meals.

The council’s leader, Councillor Ken Thornber, said: ‘We have made a real commitment to supporting local producers.’

The team provides school meals at 448 primary and special schools and 31 secondary schools in the county.
