CHILDREN were transported back to the 1960s as they celebrated their school’s 50th birthday.

Staff and pupils at Padnell Junior School in Cowplain held a day of celebrations, including dressing up in 1960s clothes.

The school opened up in the afternoon and invited former staff and pupils to come in and share their memories of their time there.

An exhibition was set up in the hall with photographs of the school over the years.

Headteacher Sandra Lawlor said: ‘Children learned about the 1960s. Some of them looked at the moon landings in the 60s, and some of our Year 3 children designed 1960s clothes and did a fashion show.

‘They really enjoyed it. They loved finding out about life in the 1960s. It’s something that we don’t tend to cover in the curriculum normally. It was a really good themed day.’
