STUDENTS from Cowplain Community School were announced winners of a competition.

A group of Year 8 students took on the IET Faraday Challenge at Portsmouth University. The nationwide challenge encompassed the skills of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Cowplain School was up against six other local schools.

They were tasked with setting up a prototype for a communications system between two towns several kilometres apart.

The students were awarded a glass trophy for the school and Amazon vouchers.

Headteacher Ian Gates said: ‘I started as headteacher of Cowplain Community School on the day of the competition so it was great that at the end of the day we had already won such a prestigious trophy.’
