AN EXPERT on Charles Dickens’ childhood will be the guest speaker at a school’s 14th annual birthday lecture in honour of the great author.

Michael Allen, author of titles including Charles Dickens’ Childhood and Dickens and the Blacking Factory, is due to attend the event at Portsmouth Grammar School on Saturday, February 4 at 7.30pm.

James Priory, headmaster, said: ‘All members of the school community and the public generally are warmly invited.

‘I hope as many people as possible will be able to join us for this special event in which we celebrate 200 years since Dickens’ birth in Portsmouth in 1812.’
