CARROTS, potatoes, aubergines, beans and marrows are all in a day’s work for reception year children who have just scooped a national vegetable growing prize.
The green-fingered youngsters at Titchfield Primary won Persimmon Homes’ National Vegetable Growing title and a cheque worth £1,000.
Headteacher Michael Bainbridge said: ‘I’m so proud of our children who have worked hard not only growing the vegetables but also learning the science behind them and using them in creative ways.
‘They have drawn them, observed them grow and even taken them home to cook.
‘The next step which I’m looking forward to is discussing how to spend the £1,000 with the children. We have a fantastic outdoor space with a stage for drama, a cycle track, a music area, a den and a boat – but we could do even more.’
