COMMUNITIES were invited to celebrate diversity and challenge prejudice at an event to mark Black History Month.
Hampshire Constabulary held a two-day exhibition of black minority ethnic culture at its headquarters.
Event organiser, Sergeant Emma Hart, said: ‘We want to help bring people together from a variety of backgrounds to share their experiences, while also building mutual trust and respect.’
Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes said: ‘The police service within the two counties of Hampshire and Isle of Wight should reflect all the communities that it serves, and should recognise cultural differences when it comes to policing.
‘I also want to promote diversity and multiculturalism within the wider criminal justice system.
‘During this month of celebrating black history, I’d like to ask what more can be done to support my drive to recruit more people from ethnic minorities into the police and criminal justice service.’
