A PORTSMOUTH-based charity that supports people all over the world with Down’s Syndrome has dropped its abbreviated name.

DownsEd, based at The Sarah Duffen Centre in Southsea, will from now on be referred to as Down Syndrome Education International or DSE International – its official title.

Charity CEO Frank Buckley explained: ‘We’ve simply dropped DownsEd as a short name as a lot of people didn’t understand what it referred to it. What’s more, some people thought it referred to people with “Downs” - but it is preferred to be said to have “Down’s Syndrome”.

He added: ‘DSE International also takes in the global aspect of what our charity does.’
