JENSON Button step aside – primary schoolchildren not only raced cars around a track but also built them.

Twenty teams of six nine to eleven-year-olds from schools across Portsmouth and Hampshire went head to head to complete two races in the shortest length of time.

Overall winners were Wickham CoE Primary School, but several teams won other prizes – including Stamshaw Juniors who won the race in and out of cones.

Emma Tyler, of Greenpower, who supplied the electric car parts for schools to build, said: ‘It was a great fun day with all the schools doing brilliantly.’
