STUDENTS came face to face with angel sharks, rays and eels on an exciting training expedition to Tenerife.

The group of 14 to 17-year-olds from Bedales School, near Petersfield, embarked on the deep seawater exploration to qualify for a range of ocean diver awards from the British Sub-Aqua Club.

They dived 10 times in a week and also went on a safari to Mount Teide where they discovered the history of volcanic eruptions.

Cheryl Osborne, biology teacher, said: ‘We all very much enjoyed the chance to practise diving in such clear and beautiful waters, which is a contrast to diving near the British Isles.

‘We had ideal conditions so students could focus on building their confidence and enjoying the underwater experience.’
