Easter bonnets were on parade at a nursery.

Youngsters at Tops Day Nursery at Lakeside in Portsmouth enjoyed cutting, sticking and colouring to make their hats, which were judged by the city’s Lord Mayor Cllr Lynne Stagg yesterday.

She said: ‘Getting the kids involved in creative stuff like this is a great idea.’

Nursery manager Katie Duke added: ‘The children enjoyed participating and showing off their creations.

‘Parent participation is a main goal for us so it’s about getting them involved too.’

Dave Terrell, whose son Harrison was winner in the two-year-olds category, said: ‘He and his mummy have spent many hours making the bonnet.

‘It gets them interactive and is good for their social development.’

The winners were given sweets and Easter prizes.
