FUNDING for a new university technical college has been agreed.

Portsmouth UTC took another step forward with the secretary of state for education Nicky Morgan deciding to enter into the funding agreement.

It comes just days after conditional planning was approved for the new £10m school building.

Cllr Neill Young, cabinet member for education on Portsmouth City Council said: ‘This is excellent news and it’s now all systems go.

‘Building should start in July, pupil admissions will open this September and the school will be open in September 2017.

‘We look forward to seeing this exciting vision of a new model of education take shape.’

Led by University of Portsmouth, the Royal Navy and the council, Portsmouth UTC will be built in the grounds of Trafalgar School, in Hilsea.
