HIGHBURY College has been nominated for an award which recognises its green credentials.

The Cosham-based college was one of three organisations to be nominated by the Hampshire Business Awards selection committee.

The Blake Lapthorn Sustainability Award acknowledges organisations that have shown a strong commitment to being green and which have delivered measurable improvements on their impact on the environment.

Jonathan Cox, executive director of finance and corporate services at the college, said: ‘A commitment to the issue of sustainability is at the heart of what we do.

‘We maintain close monitoring of energy use, waste and recycling on a monthly and yearly basis, and set ourselves challenging targets.

‘We have made significant savings in the last two years, which will enable us to invest more in educational achievement for the people of Portsmouth and beyond.’

The winners will be announced at an awards dinner on October 11 at the INTECH Science Centre and Planetarium.
