A 10-year-old boy raised more than £600 to help people in Nepal.

Finley Jannaway, from Fareham, has done his bit to help towns and villages recover from one of the worst earthquakes to hit Asia.

Finley, along with his friends, organised a fundraising event to support the survivors of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake which struck on April 25.

He was inspired to act after seeing images of the aftermath of the earthquake, before a second with a magnitude of 7.3 struck on May 12 causing further damage to homes in the region.

The fundraiser took place at Finley’s school and featured face painting, a raffle, games and a cake stand after classes had finished at Wallisdean Junior School in Wallisdean Avenue, Fareham.

Hundreds of people attended the event including Finley’s mum Kelly Clapson.

I’m really proud of him. It went so well. It was a real success and he’s chuffed.

She said: ‘I’m really proud of him. It went so well. It was a real success and he’s chuffed. He’s been telling everyone about it.

‘Raising £443.01 on the day and, including Just Giving, he raised a total of £588.01 for the Nepal earthquake.

‘Finley and his friends Karl, Adam, Henry and Roman were all really sad to see the devastation in Nepal.

‘They grouped together to find a way to help the people of Nepal and held the event at their school.’

Finley, who is in Year 5, raised £155 out of his target of £200 on his Just Giving page.

Hayley Bell, office manager at Wallisdean Junior School, said the whole school joined in with the event.

She said: ‘The fundraiser was almost like a mini summer fayre.

‘It was absolutely amazing for the school to have such a young boy gathering up a team of fundraisers and he thrived under the challenge.

‘He was supported by the school and many of the parents and we are extremely proud of the amount of money he raised in such a short space of time.’

The youngster is continuing to raise money for the cause.

All the money raised will go to the British Red Cross’s Nepal Earthquake Appeal.
