CHILDREN are being encouraged to take inspiration from a wall that has been designed at their school.

Springfield School in Drayton has had a refurbishment over the summer with a new canteen, a science laboratory and new staff room.

But the key feature is the ‘future wall’ in the refurbished reception area, which spells the word future, using different books, plays, films and pieces of history.

Headteacher Sara Spivey said: ‘We wanted to inject a bit of “wow” factor and something the children could be really proud of our school.

‘We wanted something that would inspire the whole school and relate to all ages.

‘We want our children to be aspirational and relate to the future.

‘It’s fantastic watching people of all ages go and look at it and ask questions about it. It’s a bit of a timeline and we are using it for learning.’

So far, all Year 7 children have come down to look at the feature wall as part of their history lessons.

Ms Spivey added: ‘We are very pleased with the before and after. I have heard youngsters use the word wow which doesn’t happen as often as we would like.’

Ms Spivey said it was important to spruce up the reception area as it’s the first part of the school visitors see when they come in.

‘The front of house is important,’ she said.

‘I want the school to be an exciting and vibrant place for the children but I also want the staff to have a good learning environment and I want to attract the best teachers.’
