THERE was plenty of glitz and glamour at the Mary Rose School prom.
Scores of pupils from the Gisors Road school in Southsea were suited and booted for their end of year ball.
The evening was held at the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel, Southampton Road, Portchester, and was a celebration of those pupils leaving.
Head of sixth form Lin Turner said: ‘It was a special evening for students at school.
‘Ten pupils were given achievement awards by MP Penny Mordaunt.
‘They were given certificates and presented the work they had done over the years.’
It was the fifth year for the prom, which is organised with students.
The evening started with presentations, before students, family and staff tucked into a meal.
Afterwards the dance- floor was opened and a disco was held.
‘Each year it has become more successful,’ added Lin.
‘This year’s prom followed a purple and silver colour scheme, which had been thought of by the pupils.
‘Everything from the colour scheme to decorations was organised by them. It was a fantastic night.’
Headteacher Alison Beane called the evening special.
She said: ‘It was a special night as it was great to see all they had achieved.
‘A lot of pupils arrived in stretch limos and everyone made an effort to dress up.
‘It was also a great evening for parents and staff – some who will have known the kids since they were two.
‘It was a great night.’
