CHILDREN at some of Portsmouth’s schools have had a taster of dishes that will be on the menu when free school meals become available for all infants from September.

Court Lane, Southsea Infants, Solent Infant School and Northern Parade Infant School took part in previewing hot school lunches for their pupils.

Councillor Neill Young, cabinet member for children and education, said: ‘Regular meals and eating a healthy balanced diet is fundamental to the development of children’s health and wellbeing.

‘Healthy pupils are more likely to be better learners and to get more from their school day. So I’d encourage parents and children to give school meals a try – not only are they are tasty and nutritious, they’re also free for all infant school children.’
