A play created for young children will be performed for free at the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth on Friday.

The production, based on the story of Little Red Riding Hood, has been entirely scripted, designed and produced by 12 students from across Portsmouth schools aged between 14 to 17 on a Making Theatre Gaining Course course.

It is aimed at three to 10-year-olds and families with young children are encouraged to come along to the show at 3.30pm.

Hilary Strong, course director, said: ‘It’s a challenge to make a production from scratch in two weeks. The students have really embraced the opportunities of learning with professional experts and have demonstrated great ingenuity and skill.’

Amateur actors in the show created by Strong Ideas Ltd in association with the New Theatre Royal and supported by Artswork and the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire, were auditioned by the students themselves.
