CHILDREN made their very own advent calendar to go on display at a Portsmouth supermarket.

Year 5 and Year 6 pupils from Solent Junior School made the calendar, which has been on display in the shop windows of Sainsbury’s in Farlington.

Year 3 children also went along and sang carols.

Headteacher Elizabeth Cooper said: ‘We have a good relationship with Sainsbury’s.

‘Sometimes they send staff up to the school to help us.

‘The calendar looks lovely. It’s a way of us showing Christmas spirit to our local community.

‘It’s a magical time to be working in schools.

‘This is a way of reaching out to the community and – it’s a lovely time of year for that.

‘It’s all about children so it brings Christmas to life.’

Sainsbury’s has also been working with Highbury Primary School which has produced crackers which have gone on display in the customer cafe.
