GREEN-fingered schoolchildren are celebrating after winning a prize for their gardening project.

The youngsters at Flying Bull Primary in Buckland were awarded second place in Portsmouth in Bloom’s environmental category.

They were congratulated on their two allotments containing a variety of seasonal vegetables, as well as an all-year outdoor classroom which they use for gardening sessions as science and creative writing.

Deputy head Georgina Mulhall said she was grateful to highway contractors Colas for sponsoring a lot of the gardening work and support from former council community gardener Stephen Rees.

She said: ‘The children can see how they have made the outside areas even better. They especially enjoy cooking what they grow.’
