Gas leak forces school to close

PUPILS at a primary will be taking lessons at another nearby school after an emergency.

A gas leak was discovered at Sheet Primary School, School Lane, Sheet, Petersfield yesterday.

Hampshire County Council contacted parents on Thursday asking them to take their children to nearby Herne Junior School instead.

A statement from the school said: ‘Please drop your child at the main reception promptly at 9am and not before 8.50 and then pick them up at 3pm. We need to ensure that pupils arrive and depart promptly so as to not cause difficulties for the Herne Junior school parent.

‘As you are probably aware parking near the school site is difficult, therefore, I recommend walking. All Sheet staff will be there to greet you outside.’

It will be a non-school uniform day for the children who have been asked to wear warm, wet weather gear as they will spend the first part of the morning at the park on the Heath as part of their science work.

Junior pupils will take advantage of the short walk into town to support their topic work about Petersfield.

The school added: ‘It should be a fun and exciting day for the pupils. Thank you again for your continuing support. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to be support walkers today, if any other parents can help please make yourself know to the class teacher.’

It is not known how serious the gas leak is and how long the school will be closed for.
