RESULTS are ‘far better than last year’ the headteacher of Bridgemary School in Gosport has said.

Students at the Wych Lane school collected their GCSE results today, with 37% of students receiving the gold standard of five A*-C GCSEs including English and maths.

Headteacher Vicki White has stressed this does not reflect the individual improvements in certain subjects.

‘If you look at a national picture the results are not very good but they are far better than we received last year,’ she said.

‘We have seen a considerable improvement in English particular.’

Student Emily Phillips, 16, from Gosport, picked up her grades today. She gained an A, two Bs and five Cs

She said she was pleased with her results, but added that it was nerve-racking picking them up.
