GCSE results: Fareham Academy

THERE were tears of joy and sadness as GCSE students picked up their exam results today.

Most were overjoyed to have finally finished their GCSEs and to be moving on to college.

Fareham Academy, in St Anne’s Grove, Fareham, was celebrating achieving its best results ever, with 70 per cent of students receiving five A* to C grades including English and Maths.

Headteacher Nadine Powrie said: ‘I’d like to thank the students, the parents, the teachers and the governors for all their hard work which has got us to where we are today. We are just so happy. It’s almost surreal.’

Top female student Riona Menezes, 16, received four A*s, five As, two Bs and one C.

She is now off to Barton Peveril College to study for her A-levels.

Riona, of Blaven Walk, Fareham, said: ‘I am really proud. I have worked really hard for these results.’
