THERE were smiles all round at Henry Cort Community College in Fareham as students picked up their results.

Fifty nine per cent of pupils achieved A* to C including English and Maths, up from 44 per cent last year.

Ellie Turner, pictured, suffered with a lot of exam nerves but came out with four Bs and six Cs and can’t wait to study her A-levels.

The 16-year-old said: ‘You think about how so much could go wrong. But I knew I had to sit my exams. I just knew I had to do it to progress in my life or else I would be stuck.’

Headteacher Phil Munday, who leaves the school at the end of the month, said: ‘I am very proud. I am proud of the students and the teachers. The students have worked really hard this year and they attended a lot of after school stuff and Easter and summer revision classes.’
