GENDER equality in sport will be discussed by an international panel of experts at the University of Chichester next week.
The event on Wednesday will mark the official launch of the Anita White Foundation, in honour of a former university staff member and governor who chaired the organising committee for the first world conference on women and sport in 1994.
This resulted in The Brighton Declaration – a global benchmark for efforts to redress imbalances women face in their participation in sport at all levels. It has since been adopted by 257 international and national organisations worldwide.
Dr Elizabeth Pike, who will chair the discussion, said: ‘One year before the Olympic and Paralympic Games are staged in London, we shall be examining the progress, pitfalls and potential for gender equality in sport, and ask to what extent they will be ‘gender equal’ games.’
