TODAY is the final deadline for school applications for this September.

Portsmouth City Council has warned parents of children due to start school or transfer to junior school to get their applications in by the end of the day.

Failure to return a child’s application on time will seriously affect the child’s chances of being offered a place at their preferred school.

To start school in September, the child must be born on or between September 1, 2009 and August 31, 2010.

Julian Wooster, the council’s director of children’s services, said: ‘Our admissions team is all geared up to help the process go as smoothly as possible for families.

‘It helps everyone – families and us – if applications are in on time. If an application comes in after the closing date, it will only be processed after all the on-time applications.

‘This means you are very likely to miss out on your preferred schools.’
