UNIVERSITY students and volunteering organisations were out in force to celebrate Good Deed Day.

As a part of the University of Portsmouth’s Student Volunteering week roses and fruit were being given out to passers-by to brighten up their day.

Third year film studies and creative writing student Harriett Thompson said: ‘Volunteering to be a part of today and the rest of the week is a good way to meet new people and help others.’

Others were being asked to pick out a good deed and complete that task.

Student Mariana Rocha said: ‘We are giving out a range of deeds for people to do to try and get people to achieve something for someone else.’

Representatives from several community groups were on hand to drum up volunteers and inform people about the ways that they can get involved.

Brian Bracher, chief service officer for Portsmouth Together said: ‘It’s great to see that people want to get find
out about how they can volunteer.’
