Gosport pupils hear from one of UK’s top illustrators

ARTY college students took the chance to learn from a master illustrator who has designed album artwork for an internationally famed band.

A-level and BTEC students studying illustration, graphic design and textiles at St Vincent College in Mill Lane, Gosport, heard about the life and work of illustrator Jasper Goodall from the man himself.

Mr Goodall, who teaches at Brighton University, showed the students examples of his work, from early perspective drawings of car parks, to Tibetan-inspired moving images commissioned by Sony for the firm’s Playstation.

He has previously worked with rock band Muse, designing album artwork, which band rejected – but they later used some of his work for singles artwork.

He said: ‘It’s really important for people like me to try and give a bit of inspiration.

‘At this level a lot of students have no real concept of what design or illustration actually means in real terms.

‘So to see someone talk about a particular job, such as Muse, shows them what they are doing at college.’
