IT WAS a memorable day for St Vincent College as it proudly saw its first student heading to Cambridge University.

Elliot Wright, 18, was thrilled when he learned that he had got the results he needed.

He is the first pupil at St Vincent College, on Mill Lane, Gosport, to go to the university, having achieved an A* in English literature, an A* in classical civilisation, an A in religious studies, and an A* in his extended project.

Elliot, a former Brune Park Community School pupil, from Elson, said: ‘I was so surprised. Even though I was predicted the grades, I never thought it would actually happen. English is a subject that I am very passionate about and to be able to study it at Cambridge is fantastic.’
