CHILDREN stepped back through the decades as part of a new topic at their school.

The Year 1 pupils at Newtown Primary School in Gosport started a new project called Class from Couture.

They are exploring different fashions through the decades and linking it to all different parts of the curriculum.

Year 1 teacher Sue Courtney, said: ‘The idea is it boosts their confidence and gives them a purpose for doing maths and things like ICT. It’s a very creative curriculum.’

On the first day of the topic, children dressed in clothes from different eras including the 40s, 50s and 60s, right up to the current day.

Mrs Courtney added: ‘The parents had really gone to a lot of trouble and put a lot of thought into it. They really did look superb.’

As part of the project, the children are writing the script for and filming their school nativity.

They will also perform a fashion show at the end of term where they will be tasked with using tie dye to make their own item of clothing.
