A HAVANT headteacher has collected £700 for an educational charity after taking part in the London Marathon.

Chris Anders, head of Park Community School in Leigh Park, ran the 26.2-mile race last month in four hours and 44 minutes in aid of SOS Africa, which provides care and schooling for deprived children in Africa.

He said: ‘The atmosphere was amazing, the people were screaming as we went past and cheering us on.

‘The marathon is sport as it should be – you’ve got the athletes at one end of the spectrum and people like me at the other taking part.

‘I’m pleased I was able to raise money for such a good cause. Family and friends and school colleagues were very generous.’
