STUDENTS and staff at Highbury College are celebrating after topping the league tables for further education colleges in England.

Boasting a ‘success rate’ of 92.2 per cent – calculated from a combination of exam pass rates and drop-out numbers – it has beaten 233 FE colleges to claim first place.

Principal Stella Mbubaegbu said: ‘I am delighted by this spectacular achievement.

‘Our students should be very proud of their success, which is testimony to the passion, skill and dedication of all the staff at Highbury College.’

Across Hampshire, Highbury trumped all sixth form as well as further education colleges, with South Downs in 11th place (81 per cent); Havant College in 13th place (80.4); Fareham College in 19th place (76.4); St Vincent College in 20th place (76.3); and Portsmouth College 22nd (71.1).
