AN ELITE group of colleges has welcomed the outstanding Ofsted report of a further education college in Portsmouth.

The 157 Group, formed of 28 good to outstanding Ofsted-rated UK colleges with an annual turnover of £35m, applauded the success Highbury College – one of its members.

Lynne Sedgmore, executive director, said: ‘As well as demonstrating outstanding leadership, governance and quality of provision, the college has developed strong partnerships with local and national organisations that help staff identify and meet the needs of learners and employers.

‘The college makes an outstanding contribution to community cohesion. Wonderful examples include its work to help addicts rebuild their lives and a six-week violence prevention programme.

‘We are extremely proud of Highbury College’s outstanding and well-deserved report, and offer our wholehearted congratulations to the principal Stella Mbubaegbu and her leadership team and staff.’
