HIGHBURY College will celebrate the progress of the first students of the Solent Recovery College.

The award ceremony, which takes place on Friday, February 28 will celebrate the progress in overcoming mental health issues of the 163 students.

Professor Geoff Shepherd, who pioneered the recovery college model in the Mental Health Service, will be attending the event.

The SRC was developed by the Solent NHS Trust, Highbury College and the Richmond Fellowship – which provides peer support from volunteers who have recovered from their own mental health issues.

Sue Ward, head of centre for Skills for Life and Work, at Highbury College said: ‘By combining the experience of peer support workers with the expertise of mental health professionals in an educational environment we have seen some amazing success stories in our first year.

‘It has been an incredible journey for everyone involved so we really want to celebrate how far we’ve come.’
