There were scenes of joy at Horndean Technology College as pupils opened their envelopes.

Joshua Knight (16) of Oak Coppice, Horndean, got six A* and four A passes. He was delighted as he was only predicted B grades and a C in German, in which he acieved A8.

He said: ‘I can’t really be disappointed. I had hoped for this, but I did not expect it. This is the progression onto the next stage.’

Joshua will now go on to study A-levels at Havant College.

Head teacher Julie Summerfield said: ‘I am very proud of him. He is a student who has worked exceptionally hard and deserves all that he has achieved.’

Elizabeth Ryall, 16, of Hawthorn Road, Horndean, got six A8 passesa and four As and a distinction star in B-tech art design.

She said: ‘I am shocked. I thought I would do so badly. I thought it would be bad news if I am honest. I am relieved.

She too will go to Havant College to study A-levels.
