There were scenes of joy at South Downs College at Crookhorn as students opened their A-level results.

One of those was Jessica Bone, 18, from Chichester, who is off to Oxford University. She got an A* in Geography, an A in Psychology and an A in Maths.

She said: ‘I’m really happy. I was really nervous beforehand and I just didn’t want to think about it.’

Charlotte Uden, 18, of Second Avenue, Farlington, got two A* in English Literature and Music and an A in Maths.

She’s off to study Law at the London School of Economics.

She said: ‘I’m really pleased. It’s a lot better than I expected. It’s been such a lot of work and I haven’t had a life for the past few months. It’s definitely worth all the work.’
