YOUNGSTERS learned how to strip a bike, repair it and make it roadworthy in a project set up by police.

PC Justine Lewis persuaded South West Trains to donate 10 bikes to pupils from Park Community School, in Leigh Park, who had shown good or improved behaviour.

For the first week of the Easter holidays they spent the cold days outside at Staunton Country Park where bike mechanics taught them how to transform the old bikes in colours of their choice to take away with them.

Afterwards there was a barbecue to celebrate the project.

PC Lewis said: ‘It went so well South West Trains has agreed to take part long term.’
