Linvoy inspires college students with talk
POMPEY legend Linvoy Primus inspired college students with a heart-felt talk about his playing career, charity work and life after football.
The former defender visited Highbury College as part of National Libraries Day to drive home the importance of reading.
Linvoy, founder of the Faith and Football charity which helps deprived youngsters fulfil their potential, said: ‘The more you read, the more you understand different views and perspectives.
‘It’s important to continue to get the information in and the more you read, the better prepared you’ll be to understand different things when they face you.’
Students were fascinated to hear about how Linvoy coped with rejection and injury throughout his nine- year spell at Portsmouth FC, as well as his triumphs at the club – among them, being named fans’ player of the year.
Linvoy was optimistic about the club’s current situation. He said: ‘There’s a lot of disappointment because a number of the staff have been through it before and there is a big feeling of “what is going to happen next?”
‘But there’s also a fighting spirit. We’ve got to keep things running and moving forward for the prospective new owner. The fans have got to keep going as well.’
