A NEW sports scheme in Portsmouth promises to see the game of netball flourish in the city.

From September, Portsmouth College will partner up with Shooting Stars Netball Club in Portsmouth to host the initiative for 14 to 19-year-olds.

The college will have the club at its site in Tangier Road, Copnor, every Wednesday from 4pm until 8pm.

It is open to anyone interested in the game as well as college students taking the brand new BTEC in performance and excellence.

Shooting Stars head coach Jane Jewell said: ‘We’re delighted that we have found a new home in Portsmouth College.

‘However this project is much more than just using a sports hall. We are confident that by working alongside the college we will be able to encourage young women to continue playing the sport at the age when many drop out.

‘The club has recently qualified to compete at a regional level so these are exciting times for us.’

The college’s sports academy director Tom Lloyd added: ‘Sport here continues to go from strength to strength.

‘We’re extremely happy with the new partnership with Shooting Stars Netball Club.

‘We believe that by working in partnership with accredited clubs, who have their sport and members’ interests at heart, we can create a clearly defined player pathway for young talented netballers across the city.’
