A school has appointed a Portsmouth teacher to become deputy head of its junior department.

Ditcham Park School has announced Roland Ainsworth, who is currently head of Portsmouth Grammar School’s lower junior school, will be joining the team in September.

Mr Ainsworth has previously taught across all primary school phases from reception to Year 6.

He says he is looking forward to his new role.

He will join headteacher Andrew Rowley – who was formerly deputy head of PGS’ junior school, before moving to Ditcham Park in September last year.

Mr Ainsworth said: ‘I have been overwhelmed by the warm and caring ethos.’

He added: ‘Everybody I met, including governors, pupils, staff and parents, have made me feel very welcome and already part of the Ditcham Park family.

‘I’m excited to be undertaking the role and I hope that I will be able to bring valuable experience and new ideas to the school.’
