AN OWL and a tiger reading a big red book is the new emblem of Trosnant Juniors – and it was designed by one of its pupils.

Rebecca Pryke is the proud creator of the badge – which celebrates the federation of the Trosnant infant and junior schools this year by combining their owl and tiger mascots.

The nine-year-old’s design – chosen from 120 entries from junior schoolchildren – will now be stitched on to all new uniforms.

Rebecca said: ‘I thought hard about drawing something that represented the infant and junior schools and also brought out the aspect of reading, which is a big focus at this school.

‘I hope the badge stays around for many years.’

All pupils will get a free sweatshirt with the emblem next term, and the uniform will be compulsory from September 2012.

Head of the Leigh Park school Jim Hartley said: ‘Rebecca did a great job combining features of both schools and bringing out the reading aspect which is fundamental to everything we do here.’
