A NEW headteacher has been appointed to a Gosport school that has been led by an interim leader since last September.

Governors and the school council at Brune Park Community College say they are delighted at the news that Richard Kelly, currently head of Quilley School of Engineering in Eastleigh, will become head in September.

Chris Anders, head of Park Community in Leigh Park had been holding the reins following the departure of former head Ian Johnson last year – just months after the school was given a ‘notice to improve’.

Daphne Rose, chairwoman of governors, said: ‘Governors are delighted to announce they have appointed Richard Kelly with effect from September.

‘Richard comes with eight years’ experience of being a headteacher and his passion and knowledge for education and students’ achievement is very apparent and is the reason we chose him to lead Brune Park.’

Quilley is rated satisfactory by Ofsted. A recent monitoring visit said the school was making ‘satisfactory’ improvements with good progress in subjects including English.
