DIGNITARIES gathered at a college in Gosport to celebrate the opening of a new learning centre.

St Vincent College, in Mill Lane, held the official opening of its new Learning Resource Centre.

Gosport councillor and Hampshire County Council education boss Cllr Peter Edgar was at the opening.

He addressed the crowd on Friday.

He said: ‘This site is of tremendous historic significance to the people of Gosport.

‘It started its life as a prison and a hospital from March 1848 when the Royal Marines arrived.

’It has become a place where people trained and developed skills.

‘These improvements, delivering this remarkable brand new learning centre and the exterior cladding, will give students and teachers an excellent modern light and airy learning and teaching environment.’
