Opportunities to be created in Portsmouth

A PUSH is on to improve links between young people and local employers.

Portsmouth City Council has welcomed a report calling for business mentors and more events that bridge connections between schools and firms to be created.

The findings were adopted despite calls made by Cath Longhurst, chief executive of Portsmouth and South East Hampshire Education Business Partnership, not to double up on what is already happening.
But Lib Dem councillor Matthew Winnington, who came up with the findings on behalf of the council’s economic development, culture and leisure scrutiny panel, said he wanted the work to run alongside what was already happening to ensure young people had the best opportunities available.
