AN OVERGROWN piece of land has been transformed into a buzzing outdoor play area for pre-school children.
St Nicholas Pre-school, based at St Nicholas Church in North End, now boasts a £37,000 playground filled with toys, climbing frames, slides and a Wendy house.
The project was jointly funded by the church and Portsmouth City Council.
It took six weeks to complete and was launched with a visit from children’s TV favourite Peppa Pig just in time for the summer sun.
The Rev Tom Kennar, vicar of St Nicholas Church, said: ‘We are thrilled with the new play area which the children absolutely love.
‘For us it has turned a piece of redundant land into a fantastic, productive space for children to grow and learn.
‘We are very grateful to the city for helping us fund it.’
The funding also provided a makeover for one of the two church halls used by the pre-school, which was in need of new windows and painting.
