ANIMAL-loving youngsters p-p-picked up their pens to appeal for money to help them adopt a penguin.
The Year 3 and 4 children at Holbrook Primary in Gosport spent a morning writing letters to their parents for sponsorship to help feed and look after a penguin at Marwell Zoo for a year.
They have also planned cake stall, a ‘name the penguin’ competition, and a ‘come to school in black and white’ sponsored day to raise enough money by the time they visit the zoo in July.
Headteacher Anne Parker said: ‘Adopting a penguin has given the children a real reason for writing.
‘They have written some fantastic letters and I’m sure they will be successful in getting their parents to make contributions.
‘We’re always trying to find ways to bring the curriculum to life and the idea of visiting the penguins in July when they will be able to adopt one of them is spurring them on.’
